To have a family with kids! I know its a very normal dream, but in this age and time, you never know..

2 more weeks to go! Its actually quite nice and enjoyable to work in a psy. unit. The staff are all generally happy, knowledgeable, and student-friendly, which is a bonus. There is no stringent level of hierarchy and no obvious power struggle (well, not that I've witnessed anyway). I wonder if IMH is the same. I do get home more tired than in a med-surg placing, emotionally drained most of the time. I guess its an area that's not suitable for me. Anyways, JJ's new album is nice! He looks so goofy and happy on the album cover. Almost all his songs are nice!! I like the duet he sang with Machi.  I'm going home soon!! Yay!!! |

I'm on placement! My first mental health placement. It's pretty cool.. we each carry like an "in-ward" handphone wherever we go for safety, and we have keys and swipe cards to let ourselves into and out of the ward area. I still feel abit apprehensive, perhaps due to the stereotype attached to it. Friends who have been on tell me its good fun, so.. we'll see. We don't have to wear uniform but I want to!! Lol. So I don't have to think of what to wear everyday... Oh well.. =) |

Singapore economy slips into recessionAFP - Friday, October 10SINGAPORE (AFP) - - Singapore's trade-sensitive economy has declined for a second straight quarter, the government said Friday, meaning the city-state has entered a recession for the first time in six years. The Ministry of Trade and Industry also revised downwards Singapore's full-year growth forecast to around three percent, citing a slowdown in the global economy and key domestic sectors. In a move to confront the downturn, the Monetary Authority of Singapore -- its de facto central bank -- said it was easing monetary policy for the first time in more than four years. Singapore is Southeast Asia's wealthiest economy in terms of gross domestic product (GDP) per capita but is heavily dependent on trade. This makes it sensitive to hiccups in developed economies, particularly key export markets the United States and Europe. The data mean that Singapore is the first Asian economy to fall into a technical recession, DBS Group Research said. The impact of a worsening US financial crisis and deepening credit crunch have weakened US consumer sentiment, which will affect demand from Asia and the rest of the world, Singapore's trade ministry said. On a seasonally adjusted quarter-on-quarter annualised basis, real GDP declined by 6.3 percent in the third quarter after contracting 5.7 percent in the previous quarter, the ministry said. While it did not describe the economy as being in recession, a technical recession is generally defined as two consecutive quarters of contraction in economic output. Economists polled by Dow Jones Newswires had forecast a 0.3 percent quarter-on-quarter rise in GDP, the value of goods and services produced in the economy. Compared with the third quarter of last year, the ministry said Singapore's economy contracted by 0.5 percent in real terms, against 0.8 percent expansion foreseen in the Dow Jones poll. In August the government had revised down its full-year GDP forecast to 4.0-5.0 percent but since then, external economic conditions have deteriorated more than expected and some sectors of the economy have weakened significantly because of industry-specific or domestic factors, the ministry said. "Singapore's export-oriented sectors, such as manufacturing, will be affected," it added. Analysts said the key drag on third-quarter growth was manufacturing, and the surprise was a sharp decline in growth of what has been a booming construction sector. Trade ministry data estimated that manufacturing contracted by 11.5 percent year-on-year in the third quarter, more than the 4.9 percent drop in the previous quarter. Construction growth slowed to 7.8 percent from 19.8 percent, and service industries grew by 6.1 percent, marginally down from 7.0 percent in the second quarter, the data showed. "Services deceleration should get more severe from here on," the US bank Morgan Stanley said in a report. Last year the economy expanded 7.7 percent but after years of growth, signs of a slowdown emerged with recent disappointing trade data and contractions in the manufacturing sector, which includes the export-dependent electronic and pharmaceutical industries. Morgan Stanley said things will likely only get worse for Singapore. With external conditions deteriorating and the lack of domestic demand support, Morgan Stanley forecast virtually zero growth of 0.2 percent year-on-year for 2009. It said Singapore's recession will likely be more than just a technical one. In a speech Friday, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said that although growth is slowing, the financial system is sound and the economy remains competitive. Singapore's last technical recession occurred in 2002 while the most recent full-scale recession was in 2001, when the economy contracted 2.4 percent during the year. SINGAPORE DAY WAS AWESOME!!It was really really hot yesterday, and my friends and I sat under the sun, on the grass for at least 2 hrs. We had claypot rice from the stall (since it was the shortest queue) and that's about it until Natalie and I decide to head to Chomp Chomp later. Hehe. The queue to get into the venue was SO LONG. Even when we went at 10:30 on the dot. We had to queue for almost an hour to get in! I have never seen so many Sporeans overseas before! Hahaha!! There were IPTT stations too, cause well, there was a Mindef tent. I tried some of the rations, the Speggittie was horrible, but the blueberry and apple bar was nice!! Lol. PCK came, minus Chu Beng cause he filming in Spore. Ah Ma didn't come too!! And NO Frankie Foo!! Haha, but there was PCK, Rosie, Margret and Aloy. Tay Ping Hui came as well, sang 2 songs I think (most people, including me, left after the PCK act). So yes, I could only hear him sing as we were leaving. A few local acts as well, there's this arcapella group, one ethnic group band called 3 Tree Group? Can't remeber. And there was Electrio, Dick Lee, Hardy Miza as well, but they were later in the day (I don't think there will be very much people left). Melbourne has quite a few Malays! I was surprised! They came in their ethnic costume so that was nice. Singapore Day was nice!! I WAS SO EXCITED!! (Lol, knowing me). I liked the goodie bag!! Cause its so nice! I mean, the brown moon-cake bag, you can't find that around anymore!! And I like the shirt too!! I was surprised they gave wet wipes, and the slogan is funny. The eraser was nice to see also!! Lol. Oh yes, they also gave out free sample sauces from Yeos in this "market use"red plastic bag. And food there was free!! I thought we'll need to pay like $2 or something, but it was free! Another pleasant surprise. Silly me thought Daylight savings start TONIGHT when it started last night. So yes, I was suppose to meet Natalie for church and she smsed me at 8 and i was like, why you go so early. than.. uh..oh.. and I was still in my pjs!! So I'll go for the later service at 11:15. Lol. AGAIN! Last year I was 1 hr EARLY, this year i'm 1 hr LATE.       Tons of people!!  Binoculous!! It was in the goodie bag too~ And that bottle lying on the floor is NewWater!! They changed the picture on the bottle, looks nicer now. =)  This wrist band was put on for us before we entered.  MOE balloon!! Mine burst while I was in the queue for Claypot rice.  Rubber stamps! Red one is to prevent us from taking more than 1 goodie bag, Black one is to prevent us from taking more than 1 of the sample sauces bag.   The PCK family~!  This is the local arcapella group, I think they performed in SJC before, can't quite remember.  More PCK   Tasted pretty good!   This is the blueberry-apple bar I like. Hehe.      Nat and I decided to go Chomp Chomp. There were stalls for Chicken rice, Char Kway Teow, Kaya Toast, Ice Kachang, Ba Kut Teh etc... But the queues were TOO LONG!!  I like this bag!! So cute!   These shirts were given free, I would have bought it if it wasn't too expensive though. I like the black one best. =)   This cap was given at the door, we were lucky cause I think the lady handed Nat and I the last 2 she was holding.  Wet wipes!! The slogan says "Very clean wan!" Hahaha.   This opens up to what is shown below:   This is just a note pad from a Singapore search engine.  Sing-Tel calling card!! BUT IT EXPIRES IN MARCH NEXT YEAR!! That's too soon!! I saw someone who had a very weird tattoo today. SHE HAD A TATTOO OF A CUPCAKE ON EACH CALF!!! I'm serious!!! DOES SHE LIKE CUPCAKES THAT MUCH?!?! And it wasn't like, a small one, its actually quite big!! Just a tinge smaller than palm size! CUPCAKE TATTOO!??! It wouldn't have been that weird if it was some tribal sign, religious symbol or words. BUT CUPCAKE!?! AND IT WAS COLORED!!!! How odd!! |

I went out of Melbourne today!! Kindof. I went to Frankston beach which is about 45 mins drive from the City. The weather was cloudy, bits of sunshine here and there, but remained mostly cloudy. ( i sound like the weather-man) We had BBQ there. One interesting thing, its on a first come first serve basis. And there were only 3 in that side of the beach. 3!!! You can't book for 1. No idea why. OH YES The BBQ pit runs on electricity!! And its timed! It goes on for about... 45 mins and you have to press this button at the bottom for 10 seconds to start it again. Nat and I decided to go Chomp Chomp. There were stalls for Chicken rice, Char Kway Teow, Kaya Toast, Ice Kachang, Ba Kut Teh etc... But the queues were TOO LONG!! I like this bag!! So cute! These shirts were given free, I would have bought it if it wasn't too expensive though. I like the black one best. =) This cap was given at the door, we were lucky cause I think the lady handed Nat and I the last 2 she was holding. Wet wipes!! The slogan says "Very clean wan!" Hahaha. This opens up to what is shown below: This is just a note pad from a Singapore search engine. Sing-Tel calling card!! BUT IT EXPIRES IN MARCH NEXT YEAR!! That's too soon!! Other goodie-bag stuff. I saw someone who had a very weird tattoo today. SHE HAD A TATTOO OF A CUPCAKE ON EACH CALF!!! I'm serious!!! DOES SHE LIKE CUPCAKES THAT MUCH?!?! And it wasn't like, a small one, its actually quite big!! Just a tinge smaller than palm size! CUPCAKE TATTOO!??! It wouldn't have been that weird if it was some tribal sign, religious symbol or words. BUT CUPCAKE!?! AND IT WAS COLORED!!!! How odd!! |

I went out of Melbourne today!! Kindof. I went to Frankston beach which is about 45 mins drive from the City. The weather was cloudy, bits of sunshine here and there, but remained mostly cloudy. ( i sound like the weather-man) We had BBQ there. One interesting thing, its on a first come first serve basis. And there were only 3 in that side of the beach. 3!!! You can't book for 1. No idea why. OH YES The BBQ pit runs on electricity!! And its timed! It goes on for about... 45 mins and you have to press this button at the bottom for 10 seconds to start it again.
